UPDATE:Police confirm that motorcyclist Hyun died from his collision with Daesung

On June 24th, the Seoul, Youngdeungpo police revealed, “Hyun, the deceased motorcyclist involved in Daesung’s car accident, died from Daesung’s collision. As a result, the police will be making a dispatch to charge him without detention.”

On this day, the Youngdeungpo police held a press conference revealing their investigations and confirmed that there was only a 132-second window between the first accident and the collision with Daesung’s car. They revealed, “There was only about two minutes between his motorcycle accident and Daesung’s accident, so we have determined that Hyun did not die in that time frame. There were not a lot of cars on the road and the speed limit was 60 km/h, but we discovered through the taxi’s video that he was speeding at 70 to 80 km/h.” 

When asked to confirm whether there was a previous hit-and-run accident, police stated, “It has nothing to do with the case. There weren’t a lot of cars on the road at the time, and his alcohol level was 0.186. It has nothing to do with a hit-and-run.” 

With confirmation that Hyun was killed by Daesung’s car, what Daesung will be charged for is currently unknown. The law states that he could be jailed for under five years, or pay a penalty of $20,000 USD.

UPDATE: Big Bang’s Daesung was involved in a car accident!!!!

On June 2nd, YG Entertainment’s Yang Hyun Suk updated the YG-Life blog with his thoughts on Daesung’s car accident. He also discussed 2NE1’s upcoming release and “YG ON AIR“.

His message reads:

“2NE1’s new song release, as well as this week’s ‘YG ON AIR’ broadcast has been postponed for a week. We would like to apologize for not being able to alert our fans of this earlier, as it was a decision made under emergency circumstances. We ask our fans for their understanding.

With regards to news of Daesung’s car accident, we would to first and foremost like to send our deepest condolences to the deceased and his family members. We pray that he rests in peace.
I know that Daesung is the type to always blame himself for everything that goes wrong, so I was very worried about Daesung’s condition after the accident. Just as I expected, he was holed up in his room, refusing to even talk to his family members.
No matter what I say, I know that it cannot console him, but I visited his dorm in the early morning and told him, ‘Daesung, if I was in your position, it would have been hard for me to avoid it as well.’
I did not say that simply to console him, but because it is truly how I feel. At the time of the accident, the managers received emergency notification and arrived at the scene within 20 minutes. They were able to observe the scene of the accident.
To briefly describe what happened, at 1:30 AM KST on May 31st, it was raining and a victim of another accident was lying on the road. A car ahead of Daesung discovered the victim and quickly swerved off the lane, but Daesung was unable to avoid hitting the taxi that was stopped at the front, resulting in a collision.
Because it was so sudden, Daesung did not know even after the collision that there was a motorcyclist on the scene. Though the taxi driver estimated Daesung’s speed to be at 60km/h, Daesung testified that he was driving at 80. The truth will be discovered through CCTV evaluations and police investigations; yet because the taxi driver has long-time driving experience, and because people don’t accelerate on downhill lanes, in addition to the fact that there was a turn at the end, I feel that the taxi driver’s estimation is closer to the truth.
I know that the pain Daesung is going through is incomparable to the agony that the victim and his family are undergoing, but what I am most worried about is that this will bring about serious psychological trauma that will last months, years, or maybe an entire life-time. What I am most upset about is that Daesung had also been in an accident prior to this in 2009, where he had almost lost his life. That shock still has not worn off, and he has suffered yet another shocking accident.
Maybe well into the future… but this might be the most difficult time for Daesung.
I honestly hope that accurate investigations will be carried out so that the weight Daesung is carrying can be lifted free.

Thank you to all of you who are worrying over Daesung. I would like to once again send my deepest condolences to the victim and his family.”

UPDATE: Victim Hyun’s family speaks out on Daesung’s accident

 

Following the unfortunate news of Big Bang Daesung’s accident and motorcyclist Hyun’s (30) death, family members of Hyun gathered today for his funeral.

On the afternoon of June 1st, Hyun’s family gathered at a funeral home in Seoul in remembrance of their beloved family member. The scene was reported to have been sorrowful as siblings, friends and relatives mourned over their loss.

Meanwhile, Hyun’s accident was first revealed through a relative of his, who will be referenced throughout the rest of this article as Person A. Person A agreed to an interview with ‘Dispatch‘ in which he stated, “After I initially got word of the accident, I was extremely shocked… Ever since he [Hyun] was little, I regarded him as my own child. To hear that he left this world at such a young age… my heart broke.”

Hyun’s older brother was also seen at the funeral. He was described as being speechless. His family stated, “He grew up with his younger brother. We brought him here to the funeral home this morning. Hyun was his only sibling so this is a major loss for him.”

It has also been revealed that Hyun’s parents have yet to be informed of their son’s death. The family stated, “His parents’ health is not stable right now. Their health is unstable to the point that everyday tasks are difficult… We think that they will go into shock if they hear about their son’s death, so we have not informed them yet.”

In regards to Daesung’s involvement in the accident, the family stated, “We have seen Daesung on TV a lot and are big fans… While the loss of a family member is hard on us, it breaks our heart to know that a young friend [Daesung] is going through such a hardship right now. We’re not sure what kind of destiny this is.” And while Hyun’s family have not come in contact with Daesung’s side, they added, “We have not come in contact with his people. Neither have they come in contact with us… We have only heard stories from police investigations and insurance companies. Because it is a hard situation for both of us, there has been no business sentiment.” 

Hyun’s family also spoke out against current speculations and rumors pertaining to the accident. They said, “The autopsy results have not accurately come out yet. Also, because the CCTV has not been thoroughly evaluated yet, speculations and rumors make the situation harder… We understand that there are various stories being spread regarding the accident; however, we wish that until the results are accurately posted, that everyone will watch the situation quietly.”

As a final response, the family stated, “This whole situation is the only thing on our minds right now. We hope that when the results of the investigation are released, no one becomes victimized, including Daesung. We hope to wrap up this incident with no chagrin; that is our family’s last thoughts.”

UPDATE: Taxi driver from Daesung’s accident shares his side of the story

 

Amidst the many speculations that are taking place following Daesung’s car accident, Dispatch received the opportunity of interviewing the sole witness, taxi driver Kim (45), at the hospital.

Although he’s still being treated from the accident, Kim emphasized, “I have to correct everything that’s being wrongly reported.”

Various rumors arose after it was discovered that the motorcyclist’s vehicle was in decent condition, and therefore the rider couldn’t have been involved in an accident prior to his collision with Daesung. Kim, on the other hand, stated, “Hyun (the motorcyclist) was bleeding very much already. I think that there definitely was a very big accident that occurred before ours.”

Q. “At this time, the motorcyclist has deceased and the attention is now being focused on whether his death was caused by Daesung’s collision or not.”

Kim: “Daesung is also a victim in this case. It seems that the motorcyclist already received much injury from a previous accident. He was discovered 30m away from his motorcycle and you could tell how bad his condition was with the naked eye. There was a lot of blood where he was laying and his head was also bleeding profusely. Maybe its because of the shock from the impact, but his helmet was also nowhere to be seen. The police later discovered it, and, it too, was badly damaged.”

Q. “You checked for the condition of the motorcyclist but Daesung was unable to. Eventually, he passed Hyun and collided with the taxi.”

Kim: “There is a reason why Daesung could not have avoided Hyun. There was another car in front of Daesung. To put it simply, I put up my emergency lights after discovering the motorcyclist and stopping on the road. Just before I was about to call the police, another car discovered Hyun and swerved to the next lane. The car following him was Daesung’s. Although the first car was able to swerve and avoid an accident, I don’t think Daesung could see what was going on. Usually, when the first car swerves, the car behind it can’t catch what he’s swerving away from. Daesung was in that exact situation.”

Q. “Daesung testified that he did not see the motorcyclist.”

Kim: “Daesung did not know of the motorcyclist at all. He only knew once I told him that there was a person on the road. The car in front of him had swerved away so he didn’t have time to check at the scene.”

Q. “Daesung is currently being questioned for speeding and negligent driving.”

Kim: “I think he was within the 60km/h limit because the car in front of him was not speeding. This was what I observed with the room mirror in the taxi. They say that he was speeding at 80km/h during the investigations, but I feel that’s the speed he was at when he collided with the taxi.”

Q. “No skid marks were discovered at the scene. Does that mean his car only stopped after it collided with the taxi?”

Kim: “In my personal opinion, I think he accidentally stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake. There should have been skid marks, but there are none. Even after the collision, the taxi was pushed out 30m from where it was originally standing. If it was pushed to that extent, it means he did not brake. Even during the collision, I don’t think he braked, and it was most probably because he was nervous and shocked that he accidentally pressed the accelerator.”

Q. “Then if he wasn’t able to see the motorcyclist at the time of the accident, did he check afterwards?”

Kim: “Daesung did not have a chance to. Within 2 minutes of the accident, police arrived and he was taken for investigations. He did not know that there was a person at the time of the accident so I don’t think he knew to check. He only knew that there was a collision with the taxi. Immediately afterwards, a representative of his agency arrived, and he, too, did not see the motorcyclist.”

Q. “Did he look shocked?”

Kim: “There was so much going on. There was an accident and a victim was revealed. Within 10 minutes, journalists swarmed in. Since he’s a young celebrity, I think he was shocked. Even while being investigated by the police, his hands were shaking.”

Q. “The taxi was severely destroyed. Just looking at the taxi, you must have also been severely injured. How are you right now?”

Kim: “In comparison to the taxi being destroyed, I was not that injured. I think it was because I sensed an accident and prepared for it. The hospital said that I didn’t break anything, but I am receiving physical therapy for my shoulders, back, and neck.”

Q. “If Daesung is found to be unrelated to the death of the motorcyclist, that leaves only the issue of his collision with the taxi. The compromise will be important.”

Kim: “Daesung’s side has not begun a compromise yet. I have not received contact from them and we did not exchange business cards at the time. I do not want to reach a compromise at this moment, as I feel that the accident being reported truthfully is more important.”

Q. “As the sole witness, how do you feel?”

Kim: “It’s very disappointing. It was poor driving for him to not be able to see the motorcyclist and drive over him, but the situation is becoming severe in that there’s also the issue of a preceding accident and it’s unclear as to who caused it. This is why I mustered the courage to say something.”

The Korean media is reporting that as of 6:50AM KST, Daesung has completed five hours of initial investigations with the police, and is making his way home. The star was described to have worn a black hoodie over his face while leaving the police station with his manager.

Police commented, “Daesung was overwhelmed with the accident today, but he diligently took part in the investigations.”

The Seoul Youngdeung-Po Police Department has released an official statement about Daesung’s role in the car accident, stating, “Daesung has violated his duty to drive safely.”

On May 31st, the police explained: “At 1:28AM, Daesung was driving in the first lane from Hapjeong-dong in the direction of Yangpyung-dong on a 4-lane road. He was driving at 80km per hour (speed limit is 60km/h) and crashed into a stopped taxi after driving over a motorcyclist who was passed out on the street.”

They continued, “We will carry out a more detailed examination by monitoring the CCTV collected around the accident site, as well as gathering eyewitness reports and understanding the path of the motorcycle. We have requested an autopsy on the victim from the National Institute of Scientific Investigation.

UPDATE: Big Bang’s Daesung was involved in a car accident!!!! YG Entertainment officials have followed up

YG Entertainment officials have followed up with an explanation of what happened at the scene.

On May 31st, officials spoke through Star News and revealed, “Daesung is in great shock and sadness over an accident that he could not avoid. He burst into tears due to his concerns for the injured party.”

At 1:40 AM KST, Daesung had crashed into a taxi that was ahead of him. Fortunately, the taxi driver was not reported to be injured. According to YG Entertainment, the taxi was swerving in and out of the two lanes before quickly braking at a downhill road, which resulted in the accident.

Officials continued, “Immediately after the accident, Daesung got out of the car and headed straight for the taxi driver. After asking how he was, the taxi driver said, ‘That isn’t the problem right now.’ There was a motorcyclist already bleeding in the lane, which led the taxi driver to swerve out into the second lane in order to avoid hitting him, before making an abrupt stop.”

Investigations are currently being held as to whether the motorcyclist was killed by a hit-and-run, and whether Daesung’s car collided with him at all. It has been confirmed, however, that the motorcyclist was pronounced dead. Investigators are currently awaiting autopsy results in order to see whether he was already dead prior to Daesung’s accident, or whether his death was connected to him.

UPDATE : Naver News is stating that the motorcyclist is dead, and an autopsy is being scheduled to determine cause of death (other sources are saying that death is still not confirmed).

Police official is quoted saying, “The exact cause of death is not yet known, but Daesung’s charges will vary depending on whether or not his accident caused the fatal injury.”

Daesung was reportedly driving at 60km (37.3miles) at the time of collision.

UPDATE: Big Bang’s Daesung was involved in a car accident!!!!

UPDATE : On the 31st at 1:40 AM, Daesung hit the back of the taxi in front of him while driving. It has been revealed that fortunately, the taxi driver has had no major damage done to him.

If we go by YG Entertainment's side of the story, Daesung was driving down the first lane, and the taxi in front of him suddenly drove over to the second lane and then quickly reversed back into the first lane, causing Daesung to collide.

As soon as Daesung got out of the car accident, he asked the taxi driver if "he was okay," and the taxi driver said, "I'm not the problem right now. On the first lane, there's a passed-out motorcycle driver who is bleeding, so I tried to escape the situation and then tried to stop to examine it."

After that, Daesung and the taxi driver and currently at the Seoul Police Station being investigated starting from 4:50am.

The police are currently investigating whether Daesung actually hit the motorcycle driver. According to the police, it has not been identiifed whether the driver is dead.

UPDATE: Big Bang’s Daesung was involved in a car accident!!!!

UPDATE : Photos of Daesung's Audi A4 have been revealed through Korean press. The photos show his car's front badly damaged by the car crash. The photos also show a tow truck also picking up the car, it is evident from the photos that the crash was not simply a "tapping", but a serious collision.

YG has yet to make a statement on the accident and there has been no information as to how involved Daesung is in the accident. Currently, it is believed that he is being talked to by Seoul's Young Deung Po Police.

Police have also revealed that the motorcyclist is not dead and is currently in the hospital, but there has been no word on his condition.

Big Bang’s Daesung was involved in a car accident is currently at the police station for a car accident investigation.

On May 31st at approximately 1:40am on the south side of the Yanghwa Bridge in Seoul, it was reported that Daesung crashed into a taxi and a motorcyclist that was already passed out on the street. While the taxi driver stopped his car to help the motorcyclist, who was hit by a previous hit-and-run accident, Daesung crashed into the stopped taxi, and in the process hit/killed the motorcyclist who was on the ground as well.

When police arrived on the scene of the accident, it was reported that they administered Daesung an alcohol test, which revealed that Daesung was not under the influence. He is now at the police station for further investigation.

An official police statement has been released regarding Big Bang’s Daesung’s car accident.

According to the Seoul YoungDeung Po Police Station, “On the morning of May 31st at Yanghwa Bridge, Daesung crashed into an already-passed-out motorcyclist with his Audi car. It was identified that he crashed into a motorcyclist who was passed out from a previous accident. We will be able to give a clear confirmation after the investigation is over.” 

Up until now, it was reported that the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. However, the police stated, “He has been admitted to the hospital and his death has not yet been confirmed.” He added, “Currently, we are investigating whether alcohol was involved.”

Although earlier reports stated that Daesung was not under the influence, this most recent official statement from the Police, states otherwise.
